It all depends on what you are doing with the final animation.
Is it going on Broadcast TV? Industrial? Home?
For broadcast, all the goodies should be used.
For industrial, they aren't really needed, but nice. (TBC required, though)
For home, who cares?
Broadcast: D1, D2, 1", Beta SP, write-once laser disk
Industrial: 3/4"SP, M-2, re-writable laser disk
Home: VHS, SVHS, Hi-8
Let me know which catagory you are interested in, and then some
recommendations can be made.
