As Donna mentioned we did some testing of our own and came up with the
following results:
Start Program: v2.0 – 4 sec.
v3.0 – 5 sec.
Load a 40k .CDR file: v2.0 – 5 sec.
v3.0 – 9 sec. (wireframe)
v3.0 – 14 sec (editable preview)
Preview same 40k file: v2.0 – 8 sec.
v3.0 – 6 sec.
A full screen Preview of Snowbarn.cdr
v2.0 – 2 min. 35 sec. Paul's system
v2.0 – 2 min. 12 sec. Donna's
system
v3.0 – 1 min. 35 sec. Paul's
v3.0 – 1 min. 11 sec. Donna's
It seems as though our results differ from those you have obtained. Our
system's are identical except that I have an ATI Utlra card 1024×768 256
colors and Donna has a Trident 800×600 256 colors.
Michael I think there are several very major factors you are not putting
into the equation. Speed issues of Draw have been a major concern for us
for a very long time. We have made some very significant steps forward in
this regard in the latest release. However, because we are a Windows
application there are some areas of speed that we have no control over.
Firstly there is the environment itself. Windows has to be optimized in
itself. This you probably already know.
Secondly, there are the issues that effect screen presentation and redraw.
This is where video display adapters and the accompanying drivers come in.
A video card can perform at many different levels of performance depending
on the resolution, color depth and effiency of the driver code. The latter
being the most important.
I cannot explain your particular results but suggest that you ensure your
drivers are up to date and that Windows is optimized. Short of that you may
want to give our Tech support team a call and one of us can go through your
system with a fine tooth comb to see what else may be causing problems.
One final note. Now that you have 150 additional TT fonts in your Win.ini,
any request to that file will slow down the system. ie: loading Norton
desktop.
