I'll repeat what I had said earler (I guess that was in a different
thread…): Get UEdit and I'll give you my configuration for VI. elvis,
vim, and stevie (maybe all those are related…) are all relatively good VI
clones, including all the problems with VI. With UEdit (shareware, not from
me) you get up to 35 files open at once, split screens, ARexx support,
on-line help, extremely fast response, and a whole lot more. Rick Stiles
did the original UEdit several years ago and (me thinks…) has never
gotten the proper attention for this amazing little gem. My config for VI
emulation on UEdit gives you all the standard commands, plus ties in
automatically to the Autodocs, system Includes, etc. (e.g. you can look up
a word or routine by just putting you cursor on the word and hitting a
key). Don't mess with these "elvis" things, you just get a brain-dead
editor that doesn't know the mouse or ARexx exists and figures that one
file is all you'll ever care about….
