I'd counter that you could get a perfectly useful Toshiba 3201 (two models back from the 3401 they sell now) for about $250. It slips into your A2000's 5 1/4 drive bay. Connect it to your SCSI adapter, buy the $50 Xetec driver and presto, you've got CDROM for $300. What you're really saying is that it's expensive to expand an A1200. Or that it's expensive and dangerous to develop an Amiga-oriented expansion card and hope to make a profit. I'm sure someone could make a PC-like bare bones interface to one of these non-SCSI CDROMs, but they'd be risking a lot: the price of the Amiga expansion card, changes in el cheapo CD technology, etc. SCSI is more useful and less expensive in the long run.
