Dave,
I was surprised at how much capacity was lost on a big drive with large
clusters. Seems terrible to lose over 100 MB because of inefficiency! I
remember when DOS first came out with hard disk support for the XT. Then it
seemed like a disk with 1024 cylinders and 80MB capacity was huge. How quickly
things change.
Sorry to hear about your SCSI troubles. Did you try it with just one hard disk
on the bus? I usually have the best luck troubleshooting with the simplest
possible system. When I've seen problems like that, it usually turns out to be
something related to conflicts in IRQ's, I/O addresses, BIOS addresses, RAM
bufffers, DMA channels, etc. I have finally resorted to keeping a file on disk
with my current assignments for all those things. That makes it _much_ easier
to find conflicts or setup new devices to avoid conflicts. Stuff like this is
really a pain.
Let me know if I can help.
