I second Bob's OS/2 suggestion. I get to like it more with each use. I
know the Beta disk includes developer's tools, but i don' tthink
there's a complete compiler. The general release of 2.1 is supposed
to include one. If not, the Walnut Creek CDROM includes GNU C and
C++.
For each app you can create a custom virtual machine that sets up when
you run the app and gives back its resources when it's done.
Supposedly the next release will include networking at the level of
Novell Lite. Printing is much more advanced than WIN3.x and Adobe
fonts work just fine.
Have you visited the OS/2 fora on CIS? Very Amiga-like in that
everyone tells everyone else what a brilliant choice they've made,
that IBM couldn't market retail software if they were giving it away
(which they almost ARE), that there are no native applications
available of professional quality (less true as time passes)….
