#Virtual Reality
I read the news in a recent copy of CU Amiga. It was a short
paragraph on W. Industries idea to release a home version of their
Virtuality HMD for the Amiga. As I understand it, an Amiga 3000 acts
as the controller for the commercial system. They have special
graphics engines for providing the image output. They haven't
mentioned a price as yet. However, you can bet that the price will be
proporsional to the resolution of the HMD. I've played Exorex about
30 times, and I've got to admit I'm hooked. I just hope that the
home version is at least as good. Of course that'll cost a fat penny
or three.
Regardless of price, having an Amiga HMD is going to be very
important for the future of the Amiga. Obviously the future of
computers lies in the use of Virtual Reality. I hope that they make
world generation easy for the user. It would be nice to have a large
base of virtual-ware for the Amiga, not just games. Consider the
operating system used by Jurasic Park.
I think W. Industries will bring us a winner. I, unfortunately, will
be out on the big blue ocean for the next five months; No Amiga either. So I
hope you guys can fill me in on whats happens with the HMD.
