Terry, I just completed the first cycle (eight weeks) training for our
entry level CAD operators. The students start an eight week internship
program this week.
We thought most would be placed in manufacturing companies. Not so! The
majority of companies responding were Engineering/Architectural/Civil
types.
Because my CAD background is from a manufacturing perspective, I encouraged
the students to develop drawings around products. I would like to add
material to my next program cycle that covers the
Engingineering/Architectural/Civil/Electrical arena. Can you direct me to
curriculum materials, sample files, projects, etc. that would allow me
improve my program in this area?
Second, I would like to find materials to improve the elementary blueprint
reading section of the program. I covered orthographic projections,
one/two/three view drawings, auxiliary views, sections, dimensions &
tolerances, and assembly drawings. I feel I need to "beef-up" this
section, but how??
Is it important to teach dimetric and trimetric projections? If so, where
would it be used? What is a practical application?
Are there a set of plotting standards that equate line thickness/pen weight
to different "standard" line types, e.g., dimensions, centerlines,
sections, etc.?
