Ted,
I just got an Apple CD300, and yes it is discounted. The computer
"Superstores" in my area (Washington DC) sold it at a discount, and three days
after I bought mine at $599, the price dropped here to $499. Happily, the
store gave me the difference :-). Email me for details if you want.
As for performance, I'm fairly happy with the drive. It runs QuickTime movies
from the QT developer's CD beautifully. I'm having a problem right now
mounting an ISO-9660 CD-ROM. I'm planning to call my dealer tomorrow, so I'll
try and let you know how the support goes. From past experience with Apple,
I'm not very optimistic.

P.S. If anyone can tell me why I can't mount an ISO9660 disc, I'd be grateful.
I have a 5 MB IIsi running 7.1 with CD-ROM driver 4.0.2, and the foreign access
extension as well as high sierra and ISO extensions in my extension folder. It
mounts HFS CDs and plain audio CDs just fine.
