John – I just got a message from Don Landis indicating that the 120 minute Hi-8 tapes are indeed thinner, so your probably right to stick with 30s or 60s. Regarding my experiences with the EVO-9650: 1) I've had it since last July but haven't put many hours on it yet…still trying to master 3DS if thats possible. I purchase it based on some early reviews and the fact that I already owned a Canon A1-Digital Hi-8 camcorder. It also cost about $1500 less than the SVHS decks at the time. 2) I use Diaquest's DQ-232 controller software which works but I think it's still a bit steep in price for a primitive user interface to the EVO-9650. It wouldn't take much programming to develop an improved version. 3) I haven't had any real problems to date rendering to the EVO-9650 and have been able to digitize a series of frames (rotoscoping) to use as animated texture maps. I'll try to keep you apprised as I get more experience with it. If you have any specific questions just ask. Larry
