Could somebody please help me? We've got a Hitachi CD ROM Drive, Model CDR-1503S, with a CD-IFI4 interface card, HITACHI.SYS version 1.01 or 1.02 or 1.02M (the date is different than what it should be) and MSCDEX.EXE version 2.00 and 2.22 (which came with DOS 6.0). Our systems consist of 80386+ machines running DOS 5.0+. We don't have the manuals, however I was able to download a Hitachi Manual file from the forum (thanks to the person who uploaded it!!!! :). I have tried *everything* which it has suggested, and can not seem to get the computer to recognize that the CD-ROM is connected. The device drivers appear to load fine, as well as MSCDEX.EXE. The drive appears to work fine… when the disk is loaded, you can hear it spin up to speed. THE PROBLEM: Whenever I try to access the drive (such as DIR D:), there is a pause of a few seconds, then a message "Invalid device request reading device CROM1. Abort, Retry, Ignore, or Fail?". And that's all it does. The manual suggested typing "COPY CDROM1 C:TEM.XXX" which I have done. An error message occurs, which indicates that the driver is not loaded. My question is this: What is wrong??? Do I need a more current device driver, and if so, where/how can I get one? The intention is to get the CD-ROM player up and running on a Lantastic Network running NOS v4.10 on a 486DX 66Mhz machine. Will I have problems with the faster bus speed?
