Warren, You didn't say what type of Mac your receptionist has but you'll probably need to add a separate video card. You can simply have a "Welcome" sign as the desktop background on that monitor. The desktops of the two monitors will be contiguous but by arranging them so only the corners are touching (in the "Monitors" control panel) you should be able to minimize the possibility that the mouse will accidentally run over to the other monitor.
