I recently repaired a TV set which was loosing it's personal preferences. Therefore, each time the TV was turned off, the sound color, channels, etc… would all reset to low sound, black and white, and no channels tuned. The problem was that the battery was dead, and when I tested the battery it was causing a short circuit. After removing the Battery, and without putting in a new one, the TV could hold the prefs.. probably because of a capacitor somewheres. Anyways.. so my point is that maybe by removing the battery for only an hour would have no effect. Maybe, once the battery is out, you should cause a short circuit on the board where the battery was (without powering up the board). Also, if there is a capacitor holding anything in memory, maybe an hour wasn't long enough? This is just what I might try.
