Lou, I just picked up a copy of DTV World this weekend. I'm very impressed! I am a video amateur that got into DTV in September of 1991 with the purchase of an accelerated Amiga, Video Toaster, two TBC's, etc. Since then I have added a Panasonic AG-7750 for single-frame recording, two Panasonic AG-1960's and a Sony EV-S3000. So you can see that I am serious about video even though an amateur. What I liked about DTV World is the comprehensive coverage across platforms. I don't feel any sense of bias toward any of the platforms, and this is quite refreshing! I love my Amiga, but I run a Mac Quadra at work and my wife has a new 486 50 MHz PC clone here in the room with my Amiga. DTV World has been my first chance to really see software comparisons across platforms. I am very pleased with your premier issue. I look forward to future issues with the hope that some of the areas (e.g. video editing software and hardware, non-linear video editing, synchronizing sound and video, etc.) will be followed up by further in depth treatments of these subjects. Like all editiors I am sure you get too much advice, but let me offer one comment. DTV is not for everyone. The people who read your magazine will be looking to go beyond the "basics" so include some reviews and articles that go beyond the introductory stage. I also feel that it is appropriate for DTV World to review peripherals (hard drives, etc.) that are a necessary part of a DTV environment. For example, I recently purchased a 1.2 GB Micropolis HD for use with the SunRize AD516 board. The rather high cost of this investment and my difficulty in getting information about high capacity drives gave me great cause for concern. Fortunately, the Micropolis has turned out to be a great drive for audio/video uses, but a review of such equipment would have been a great help. DTV World is without doubt the best treatment of DTV that I have seen to date. I sent my subscription card in today and eagerly look forward to future issues. [ MORE ]
