I believe what you're describing is refractive caustics. While I've gotten some
reasonable results in the past using the Water IPAS, you're best bet is to
rotoscope a swimming pool surface, then possibly try using a sequence with
projector lights. I have a number of long rotoscoped and CG-generated
sequences, but they are quite large. Maybe I can cut out 15 frames or so, scale
down, and JPEG them or something. Then you would need to duplicate them the
desired number of times cycling back & forth – it might work o.k.. Check the
library in the next couple of days in case I can reduce them small enough to
upload.
