If LineMan says there's new messages, then there probably are. I'll bet that the reason you can't see it is because it's a system file. Select Mailbox/Filter/Show System Files from the menu bar, then click on the New button. If a new file shows up, hold the Alt key down and click the New button again. Select the "Make Old" option from the requester that appears, and voila! Your problem is fixed.
