Hi Dale, For your fax modem to use the Silent Answer Mode you need to split the line before it goes into your modem. One line will go into the modem, the other line into your phone and answering machine (the answering machine needs to be the type that shuts off if you pick up the phone, if it doesn't you will need the switch.) Set GPFax so that it will wait two rings longer than the answering machine. When a phone call comes in, your modem will monitor what the answering machine is doing if it hears the change tone then it will pick up the phone line. When the answering machine sees that the phone line has been picked up by the modem it will shut off. If you pick up the phone and hear the change tone just hang up the phone.
