Robert, by now you've received a lot of suggestions, but I'd highly suggest an optical mouse. Given my cat's penchant for climbing up on the desk and shedding, an optical mouse and a keyboard condom are the way to go if you want to live in computing heaven. That or give the cat a shave, and they generally seem to object to that procedure, although if it gets much hotter here, Isis might volunteer for it <g>.
