Hi, Lanny

Sounds familiar – and when you are showing it off to a friend, and he has 3
SV's acquired, you tell him that when it locks in a fourth it will display
the altitude. At that point it instantly acquires the fourth satellite and
then the fifth, and _still_ steadfastly refuses to reveal its altitude
guesstimate. 🙂 Not to worry – I didn't buy it for an altimiter.
The big suprise I got was the Thomas Guide interface. I wasn't aware that it
could tell me which Thomas Guide, which detail page, the grid square, and
the quadrant within the square I am standing in! Now if we could just get
the Thomas folks to produce detail maps of all the mineral areas! 😉
Guy
P.S. There ought to be some kind of game that could be played on-line with
these devices. Something on the order of:
You send me coordinates of a local (to you) landmark, I send back an offset
from my local landmark, and you try to compute the location of my landmark.
Points could be given based on:
1, Takes a tactical nuclear device.
2, close enough for hand grenades or horseshoes.
3, Spot on. 🙂
P.P.S. I joined REI when I bought the Tricorder. I hope the DOD cleans up
the signal too.
