Lunar Quicklime

The CO2 could be brought to the moon; in the process I described, it was
serving as a catalyst, being freed by the heating for reuse, so maybe not too
much would be needed. Catch a comet (lots of H2O, CO2, etc.) and drop it on
the moon? Within a megayear, you should have tons of CaO… when asking
geologists for a process, be sure to specify a time limit 🙂
Your mention of fractional-distilling lunar rock leads me to wonder if there is
some small fraction of CaO already in some type of lunar rock, waiting to be
distilled out.
Now we know you want it for CO2-scavenging, it seems worthy to consider what
other substances more easily obtained from lunar rocks might do the job. It
seems many oxides would be candidates – what oxides are found on the moon,
folks?
But… bring a little CaO from earth. Use it to soak up CO2, take the
precipitated CaCO3 to the solar furnace, bring back the CaO, start over. Any
water that goes with the CaCO3 can be collected from the vapors, so both Ca and
H2O are catalysts – it seems little Ca need be lost if one is careful.
