Rendered output from Vivid is superior on average, in my opinion. I think Vivid's light falloff does a good job of keeping scenes from getting oversaturated. Too many PoV scenes get overlit because the lights in that program go on and on. I usually do everything in 3DS, then export through 3DS2POV utility to get my Vivid input file. Then I only need to edit textures and render. The really good Vivid is the beta 3.0 that hasn't been released yet. You have to register to get it ($50).
