<<CHILDREN and ADOLESCENTS tend to be more creative and imaginitive than ADULTS
because of a lack of rationality. I, for one, can support the theory, because I
am still quite young, and have been living with this reality. This is in no way
of saying that a human "degrades", nor "de-evolves". I am just saying that
adults shy away from fictional, irrational, and illogical concepts that
children usually crave.
A wonderful conversation starter.
Ive been teaching at the college level where I deal with adolecents, adults
and old folks in classes that demand imagination and creativity, amon) and are a more creative group than average. On the other hand maybe
the strong belief that we seem to hold as a culture, that we lose creative
imagination as we get older, is not supported in reality. BTW this belief in a
more creative innocent childhood is a reletivly recent phenonoma, developing
during the romantic period and influenced by tg, but most
real world creative endevours require enormous dicipline and ability to work
for long periods of time before the results are apparent. Animation, drawing,
architecture, fashion, name it and the preparation is long and intense. There
are so many students who have imagination but cannot come to terms with life on
the material plane. They want to paint without learning to draw. They want to
animate without learning the language of film. They are unable tgination and
plodding workmanship ( the ideal combination ). Computers fool these folks into
thinking that there is a painless way to produce without preperation.
My wife tells me I am a child. Maybe those of us who remain creative and
imaginative into adulthood have found a way to keep a precious part of
childhood. She says thats no reason not to pick up your clothes.
