I may have an idea on this. You say that You "redirected all [your] swap files
to [your] g:\ drive which has 2+ gigs free." Well, I think that dos (I assume
you are using dos) has a limitation that the root directory can have only a
fixed number of files (512) I think. So if you find that you get that error
exactly when the root directory fills to 512 files I would suspect that is the
problem. The solution is to redirect things to a subdirectory instead of the
root.
