Well, we're half way there then! (Sorry Dave.)
This could be a function of DOS memory too, in addition to the sleuthing steps
mentioned by Dave. I have been able to deliberately get your results by
loading a few TSRs to under 300k memory before starting Windows. I believe
that your system's resources are low for AAStudio – a combination of Swap File,
DOS memory, Windows RAM, free disk space…
Could you let us know whether a plain boot (CONFIG.SYS has only
DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
Files=40
buffers=20
and no autoexec.bat helps?
