George,
There are two programs Animator Pro and Animator Studio which compliment each
other and 3D Studio. Their primary function when working with 3D Studio is
creating texture maps and doing some special effects. Both are excellent 2D
paint packages.
There are a few differences though. For dealing mainly with 8 bit, you'd
probably want to use Animator Pro. It's fast(runs in DOS), it's proven, and
thousands of people use it every day for 2D paint. For 24 bit 2D paint,
Animator Studio might be a better bet. Animator Studio was released in April as
a complimentary 2D paint package to Animator Pro. It has a new interface, run
in Windows 3.1, and allows you to do some cool 24 bit things that Animator Pro
can't.
Either way, you can't go wrong. A tip for you though, if you buy Animator Pro,
you can migrate to Animator Studio really cheap! See your local Autodesk
Multimedia dealer to evaluate the two and decide which is best for you.
