Rick,
The only local dealer I talked to wanted to sell me a machine with a SuperMico
motherboard. I'm pretty sure that was the one, it was a Tri-Star dual 100
system. I am writing on a Tri-Star 486 right now, they make good products. This
one has proven that they can take more abuse than they oughta have to. I think
I even spilled a beer in mine one time and have had not the first sign of
trouble with it. All these motherboards, if installed in the proper systems,
with a good knowledge of what the intended uses are, are probably so close you
can't tell the difference. I'm locked in now anyway, and not having three or
four of them to compare, I'll never know the difference.
I am hoping to get started making animations for video editors. My original
goal was to get into the video business using NLE equipment along with
animation programs. Two things became obvious in the beginning. I didn't have
the funds to get the whole ball of wax. And, there was a market for animators
in this area. I already have a MIDI studio, so I can add music composition and
recording to the animation side of things. I also have contacts in the local
industrial plants around here who are very interested in adding some animation
to their training films. The types of things I would be doing for them would be
long term commitments and become the sole property of the client. That's why I
would like to take a shot at the video end first.
Hope things work out with your search for the right gear. I spent about a month
reading threads in about 14 forums here and reading everything I could get my
hands on. The information I got from these forums really saved me a lot of
heart ache down the line. You're in good hands with Murph, just tell him not to
start YOUR system until he finishes MINE. <g>
