Jeff,
It's due to the way the disk is set up, if the disk was set up under
1.1, then the access will be no faster than if it was run under 1.1.
To speed things up to 1.2 speed, you'll have to do the following:
(whoops…you need 2 drives to do this without going crazy!)
If you don't already have a ramdisk set up as your command file, type
this from a CLI
COPY C:COPY RAM:COPY
Now, Format a disk in your external drive
WRITE PROTECT your original disk!
Put the disk you want 'sped up' into the internal drive and from a CLI
type the following:
RAM:COPY DF0: DF1: ALL
You will now copy all the files from the internal disk onto the
external disk one at a time…making necessary directories as it goes. Your new
disk now will be just as fast as your WB 1.2 disk opening from a WorkBench
screen. Don't use DISKCOPY to copy the files, it won't speed things up!
You can now RELABEL the disk in the external drive to match the disk
name of the original disk.
If you don't feel comfortable doing this…or aren't sure what I am
talking about…feel free to ask questions before you try it.
