I've got an older (JVC-made) Atari SC1224, and my boss made a cable by matching
pinouts with the Atari and Amiga manuals, and splicing in some RCA phono cords
for the sound. It works well.
Practical Solutions is making them for $40 I believe, which is kinda steep, but
they do good work.
The newer Atari monitors are almost as good (they are a little bit worse than
the older Atari monitors, but you have to sit them side by side to compare)
but, again, you have to make sure that you buy from a dealer who adjusts them –
they don't come from the factory in very good shape.
To tell you the truth, we have a 1080 and a 1084 at work, and when I take a
game to play there (only when we are very slow of course, grin) I cringe and
grimace, and go through this ritual of explaining to everyone who works there
how much better what I'm doing REALLY looks.
