Joe, I went to Ami Expo in chicago and would like to make a few comments if I could. This was the first Amiga show I have ever been to. I have an A2000 with 3meg, 20 meg drive on PC side and 20 meg on the Ami side. I also work heavily on an AT (eech!) at work using DBase, Lotus, etc, and am quite efficient at Dbase code (or so I like to think). 1) Seminars: I attended the seminar on animation on Saturday and was not at all impressed. Instead of seeing a "here's how we do it", I was given a combination of "Here's what we do" & "this is our product". The "this is our product" would be ok if it was mentioned as such in the description. It might be worthwhile to have a few vendors compare their products to a large group. The "this is what we do" part was a TOTAL WASTE OF TIME. Many felt (includly myself) that this was a waste of $5.00. I would have much rather paid more and recieved some actual hands on training of sorts. In order for the Amiga to be more readily accepted in the professional community, I feel that the seminars at such a show should also be done professionally. The seminar I attended seemed like it was put together at the last minute, and many others visiting other seminars felt the same. The key speaker (if R.J. was any indication of the others) was great! 2) The "show": I realize that a show this size requires plenty of work. However, the show as it is was as close to a "flea market of games" as I would hope it would get. The major questions asked of the vendors seemed to be "How do I get my high score higher", while dealers (unknown to the vendors), threw their arms up and walked away unsatisfied. CMON! their should be some system of colored name tags or something to visually let vendors know who the retailers were. As far as individuals, there must be some way to get it more professional and less "here's our new joy stick"! In closing, it just seems that if the amiga is going to be accepted as a professional machine, Ami Expo should make every attempt to stay away from a circus atmosphere and make itself a professional event.
