Doug,
They do tend to get rather warm when run too fast. I've gotten away with
"pushing" chips many times, sometimes up near double the rated clock speeds,
but it's not a great idea. I also put heatsinks on them and made sure they got
plenty of air, but it's not the sort of thing I'd do on a commercial product.
They also tend to become very sensitive to power supply levels. I've seen parts
that won't work at 4.9 volts (within normal supply tolerances) that run fine
when the supply is tweaked back up to 5.0.
