{Yes, I agree about the "original" quality of CD-ROM/digital information, Jan. The discussion I was talking about apparently concerned very high-level archivists — Library of Congress, etc. Apparently they wanted something that would last at least 100 years (talking about gold vs. silver CD-ROM, glass vs. plastic and such) and the question came up about the reader technology. Seemed to me, as it apparently does to you, that it would be simple enough to keep transfering it to whatever new technology comes along to replace what is available. For some reason that never came up in the conversation. Cheers, Jan!
