What we "believe" (or perhaps "want to believe") and reality don't
always match.
I certainly can't speak for you, but I never heard anyone (official or
semi-official) say that the AT card would be anything except a "true blue
clone"….just as the XT card was a "true blue clone"…right down to the clock
speed.
