Joe, The correct tool hooks under the chip (by the slots) and then the tool itself presses down on the carrier and thus pulls the chip straight out of the socket. While you can certainly get the chip out by lots of other methods…including a sanded down normal chip puller…it is not the recommended method. The important point is that the chip must come straight up out of the carrier, otherwise it can very easily bend the contacts in the carrier and/or the chip and/or break the carrier. Don
