Don, As I've said to David, _I'M_ not getting gurus. I thought I was checking or using all the values returned by system functions, but I might have missed a few. All I can say on that point is that the area of the code that seems to be crashing the machine does not make any call to system functions. I don't make assumptions (as far as I can tell–I'm following the rules in the RKM) about the state of the machine. I initialize those things I use, I check the retun values of OpenLibrary()s and memory allocation, etc. But the problem still remains, it runs on my machine OK, but erratically on older machine with less than 1M of chip ram. And I'm not hogging chip ram, at the most I'm using 210K. Now if only I could reproduce the problem on my machine. –francis
