Kelly, now we are getting somewhere – OPINION! 🙂 Let's assume that I was to put myself in biz as a Amiga-developer for some CD-ROMs available on other platforms. (Reference, Atlas, Shakespeare, Archie Comix, etc) I reverse engineer the data format of the disc, and write my own Amiga software to browse/peruse/use the disc. I sell the software to the Amiga community, saying that they needed to purchase the disc seperately (at Egghead, etc). Am I doing anything wrong? If the disc says NOTHING about use of it on other formats, then likely not (we agree, right?). But if the disc I purchase at Egghead says, "PURCHASER AGREES TO NOT USE DISC ON ANY OTHER PLATFORM OR WITH ANY OTHER SOFTWARE", then ???? – you say I haven't done anything wrong still, correct? (cause you don't believe those restrictions mean anything, right?) I say, I'm trying to make a business out of this. If I guess wrong, and am sued, can I afford to defend? What if I lose? Even if I win, has the delay, costs, etc won me anything? So, I'm all with John Gager: get permission first. If they agree, great. If they say "NO", then I likely move to another CD-ROM.
