Ben, no go. If you select Graduated Fill with black at the left and red at the right, then do a 2-way horizontal, you get a graduated background that shows the effect I want to get with Blend. Now If I have a black primary buffer and a red secondary buffer, set the Blend as you instructed, and perform a Merge, I don't get the same result. The figure looks like an hourglass or something. It seems like there should be a way to turn off the effect of the Top and Bottom Blend mixers, so that only the Left and Right are taken into account. Only then would I get a screen that goes from black to red going left to right, regardless of the vertical position. Basically, what I get is this: BBBbbrrRR where B is pure black, b is mostly black, BBBBbrRRR r is mostly red and R is pure red.
