Virtual memory will slow any computer down, unless you count crashes
that are prevented by having it. As far as I'm concerned, virtual memory is
good to have as a backup to DRAM, so that in the event I reach beyond the
limits of my DRAM it will kick in. _When_ that begins to occur with any
frequency it's time to buy more DRAM (currently, I'm about to upgrade my
8mb Mac IIfx to 20mb or 32mb).
