As an Amiga owner and programmer at home, and a Mac programmer at work, I assure you that I am *quite* dissapointed, and often incredibly frustrated, with the Mac's cooperative multitasking scheme, both from a user and programmer point of view. Hardly a day goes by when I'm not gnashing my teeth waiting for the Mac to finish *something*, whether it be formatting a floppy or printing a file or compiling a module. (Yes, I know that those Mac users blessed with a Laserwriter have a background printing module, but those of us who don't are stuck waiting for the printout to finish.) From a programming point of view, it's even worse. The Mac's cooperative multitasking is a *kludge*. It was never originally designed for multitasking of any sort, and as such causes incredible problems for certain types of programs. Half of the programming problems I run into on the Mac can be traced, either indirectly or directly, to it's lack of preemptive multitasking. Finally, multitasking on the Amiga is transparent too. Moreso than the Mac. It's transparent to the user, and transparent to the programmer. (As for task priorities, yes they're nice, but I never set them myself, nor have I ever needed to.) –>Steve Bennett
