Bob: I don't think that registered developers have it much better as far as documentation is concerned than non-registered developers. I am a registered developer, (was actually, I didn't bother to renew as I didn't think I was getting enough out of it), 2.0 has been out for a year now, all we have in the way of documenation are the AutoDocs and some developer notes. Far from adequate, IMHO. This lack of documentation is one of the reasons so many people are breaking the rules, they don't know any better. If you were developing Windows software for example, you could walk into your neighborhood software store pick up a shrink wrapped copy of the Windows SDK which includes the development tools and about 5 different manuals. A copy of a good Windows how to book like Petzold's and your off. The SDK was available to the general public at the same time Windows was. There are always going to be hackers out there who will do whatever they want regardless of any standards. But there are others who try very hard to follow the rules, I just wish the rules were documented in a more timely manner. The Amiga needs more developers, professional and amateur, and Commodore should be doing a better job making sure everybody who wants to has access to all the Amiga how to's, do's and don'ts. Having said all that things aren't too bad. I am left with just one piece of commercial software that does not run under 2.0. As the developer is no more, I doubt it ever will, but thats a pretty good record! Hopefully 2.0 will put this whole discussion to rest. It certainly is a much easier, more straight forward development environment. BTW: I think I've finally figured Whap! out, and now know who I'm replying too 🙂 -=Martin=- – via Whap!
