[ continuation ] board will be agressively marketed worldwide and will be sold in good volume (GVP has sold well over 15,000 A2000 Accelerator boards to date!). However, to ensure that the board is immediately compatible with existing Amiga (Workbench compliant) applications, GVP has developed a special AmigaDOS workbench driver, which allows virtually all workbench compatbile Amiga applications to be run directly on the EGS-110/24 without any modifications! Until now this was thought to be impossible to achieve on the Amiga. This amazing achievement has been made possible by a combination of hardware and software breakthroughs. First the hardware allows a fully-programmable color depth per pixel at any resolution! This allows easy support for AmigaDOS 2.0 Workbench windows, which have from one to eight bitplanes (AmigaDOS 2.0 limits Workbench windows to a maximum of 8 bitplanes). The EGS hardware supported color depths are: 1 bit = 2 colors out of 16Mcolors (pseudo color mode) 2 bit = 4 colors out of 16M colors (pseudo color mode) 4 bit = 16 colors out of 16M colors (pseudo color mode) 8 bit = 256 colors out of 16M colors (pseudo color mode) 16 bit = 65536 colors (true color mode) 24 bit = 16,777,216 colors (true color mode) NOTE: ALL the above color depths are available at ALL pixel clock rates (even at the full 110MHz pixel rate!). Coupled with the above programmable color depth, the hardware also allows tight 'packing' of all screens (or windows) which have a color depth less than 24bits per pixel. This conserved VRAM space as well as ensuring direct memory "layout" compatibility with the Amiga's internal bitplane oriented window architecture. For example, memory requirements for a 1280×1024 screen using different color depths per pixel, would be 160KB (of BRAM) when defined as a two color (1 bit) screen, 640KB for a 16 color (4 bit) screen and 5120KB when defined as a 16M color (24-bit) screen.
