Lawyers are conservative by nature, especially when their tactics are dictated by even more conservative judges. Fingerprints, photographs, DNA typing all shared the same judicial resistance for years, yet all are now commonly admitted into evidence with the proper foundation. We're taking the unusual step of conducting a seminar series to counter this conservatism. When I was trying cases every day, I longed for a better way to illustrate locations, actions, and relationships over time. 3D animation was only available as mainframe experiments. Now, it can be done on a desktop and at a price almost every case can support. If we at Autodesk can do our part to educate the ultimate consumers of legal animat, i.e. the lawyers, then everyone should benefit including the juries who would otherwise have to sit through days of boring testimony.
