It's that background polling for system events like floppy activity that makes
the difference between the two — gotcha! Still, it seems there are advantages
either way…guess that's what you meant by your "unfortunately/unfortunately"
line.
The NeXT folks used to say that their multitasking was unique, because if (say)
Adobe Illustrator crashed, it would not affect other programs running at the
same time. Is this in the same vein as what you're talking about?
And fwiw, other multi-platform renderers also report similar speedups when
moving to '486. More speed is great…until we get used to it!
