Kathy, I saw this Pioneer 604x,too and I agree with your opinion, we will start offering this player soon for our network solutions. Concering the performance discussion of CD-ROM in network, our software CD-Manager reports to the supervisor: which CD-ROM is accesses by which user from which station how long So, our statitistic package can find our the real parallel accesses. And now the interesting thing is: We analayse the statistical data in one of our networks, where 40 public PCs are accessible by any student in a 20.000-students university and additional 310 PC in institutes can access the 28 CD-ROM-databases provided by the Meridian Data servers: The maximum number of parrallel accesses to the same CD-ROM was only 5 for all CD-ROMs provided!!!! The avarage is about 2 !!!! Now 10 minutes retrieval are eqivalent to a max. of 1 minute physical access to the CD-ROM in average. So in a statistical view 10 users could work on the same CD-ROM without heavy influence to each other. Best regards, Christian
