It is my understanding that the more competent premastering software inserts
the track and timing info, but you would know more than I. I actually got the
header strip trick from the manufacturer's rep for Sony at the PC Expo. He
does it all the time and then picks up the file with the Sony premastering
software. I have yet to try it, but he says it works.
I saw him demo it and it looked pretty straightforward. He set up a master for
a combination redbook and data file while I watched. Looked ok to me…
The Pinnacle Mac software does it too, but forces you to do separate sessions
for the audio and data tracks, leaving the disc unreadable for single session
CD readers.
