Snd card vs SCSI control
I've been considering getting a CDROM drive and I think I've decided on the
Toshiba 3401 internal. I have a Zeos 486 16 Mhz machine with 16 mb RAM. What
I would like to know is if there is a recommended way to interface this drive?
I have several different options:
1) Buy a sound card with a SCSI interface. If so, which one? I'm not an
"audiophile" but I do want really nice sound otherwise why bother with the
CDROM. I've heard some good comments about the Media Vision card.
2) Buy the optional SCSI upgrade chip for the imbedded SCSI interface on the
Zeos motherboard. This will give me a Adaptec AIC 6260 which is compatible
with the Adaptec 1522. Zeos will send drivers with this upgrade, but I
understand that they don't have the Photo-CD capable drivers yet. This way I
don't have to worry about whether the sound card has SCSI or not. Or I
can…
3) Buy a "standalone" SCSI interface if neither of the above are viable
options.
Also, any commentary about the drive itself would be welcome.
