Don, No …. Joe's check is worth what he wrote it out for in his country. If the exchange rate changes between the time it was written and it was deposited, the only affect is on the person the check was written to. Say that Joe's check was for 500DM … when the check comes in and is debited from his account, 500DM is removed — no more, no less. My bank does not charge for foreign transactions (other than EuroChecks), maybe you should switch? (I'm with Colorado National Bank).
