#Pentium anyone?
Our translator program "InterChange Plus" can convert Vista binary DEMs to
other formats, including DXF and 3D Studio. (Vista binary DEMs are different
than the ASCII DEMs you get from the USGS.) However, you must keep in mind the
heady constraints of DEMs versus 3D Studio. A small DEM is 258 x 258 grid
squares, which becomes more than 64K triangles. 3DS is limited to 64K
triangles per sub-object. So, you've certainly got a lot of triangles to think
about, and if the landscape is split into separate objects, it won't smooth
correctly.
We hope to have InterChange Plus up and running on the PC this fall. Right
now, it's running on the Amiga. (John, I know you know this…)
