Autodesk Device Interface, which is meant to be a standard spec that mfgs and
software developers can use to write drivers that can then communicate with the
Autodesk software. But they were really meant for AutoCAD and I guess they
didn't quite have the flexability demanded by something as different as 3DS.

Check your version # (of the drivers). Are these AutoCAD drivers that also
provide 3DS support or are they the ProRes3D drivers? I THINK the first
version of ProRes that supported the color icons (plus the increased vector
redraw speed) was v2.1 — give a holler at Robert E. Bou 72540,1253 or Brian
Massey 71034,2611 — they're both with Vibrant (or Jack Bayt, though it seems
that his ID ain't in my address book).
