Ron, Robert, Jonathan, and Mike – Obviously, I know that all current Amigas have a hard disk controller. Please let me try one last time to make my point. My opinion is that Amigas are more expensive than they need to be because certain things must be added to the machine to make it useful. I'm not talking about accelerators and gigabyte hard disks. I'm talking about a battery backed clock, 4 megs of RAM, an HD floppy, and some kind of hard disk (even if it is not SCSI). I consider that much a necessity, even on a simple desktop machine. If CBM built those things into a basic computer, it would not cost $500, but it would be cheaper than a similar machine with all the add-ons now. It would therefore be a better value to the end user. One last comment on the built-in IDE controller in the A600 and A1200. While this may have saved a couple of dollars for CBM, it costs the end user a lot more. The reason is that the form factor required is the 2.5 inch drives – only the most expensive drives you can buy. It would have much cheaper to the end user if there was just a SCSI connector on the back and we had to buy external SCSI drives. In the long run, I don't think that this in CBM's best interest because it makes their machines relatively more expensive. Perhaps you feel that the A1200 is a great machine at a great price.
