I noticed an answer to this in one of the "parallel" threads you seem to have
been running the last couple of days. A Pline brought in uncapped becomes a set
of vertices (thanks to Phillip Miller). I hadn't tried that, I just knew they
didn't need to be capped. His suggestion was to give the plines a thickness in
Autocad, which will bring them in as long thin solids into 3DS.
